I can wittle it down over time if I play my cards right but my question is about why certain creatures in this game glow red. I've noticed ghouls even regenerate health when this happens! I also remember the werewolf I fought in a cave as part of a quest was regenerating health at a ridiculous rate, although my friend and I deduced that he was perhaps eating the wolf's bane plants we later found littered around the cave?
TLDR: Why do some monsters glow red and why do some regenerate health, while others of the same species don't regen? Showing 1 - 13 of 13 comments.
Isn't wolfsbane a poison? Yeah I fought him and just could not kill him the wolf as he just regens health at insane speeds and can't figure out how to stop it. That little botchling thing gave me the same problem except he grows spikes out his arse so I can't even get close to him. Didn't have curse oils at the time so maybe they help but I don't know how to stop the health regen.

See an enemy that can regen? Pop the anti poison pot into you mouth, then drop a poison bomb on you feet. Rob View Profile View Posts.
Axii is great against them. Just Axii and start hammering away at them and Axii again and do some more hammering away at them Originally posted by Voltron Zero :. Jakkauli View Profile View Posts. Ugh, that werewolf sidequest If I waited too long between the attacks it would regenerate to full health very fast. Best tactic was to just use igni and use fast attack on him when he was on fire, also spamming bombs and using shield if I was low on health.Home Discussions Workshop Market Broadcasts.

Is that normal? Is there a way to avoid it? I'm playing on second hardest difficulty, I'm lvl 3, and the ghouls are level 9 So yeah, a big gap there, but they're otherwise so easy! I'm in Velen - No man's land, at the part where you have to save some shady merchant's brother from two ghouls, to have him cut the price of the pass. Do I just have to level up and maybe get a better sword and come back later? Showing 1 - 9 of 9 comments.
You need to level up to beat them and there is bombs to negate enemy abilities. Renzou-senpai View Profile View Posts. Originally posted by 1N07 :. Originally posted by kentuckyron :. Sorry for the necro but it turns out that the ghouls recover health whenever they kill an enemy or at least whenever they kill the dogs in this specific mission.
If you let the ghoul recover to full health, the regen will stop. Only posting this so that anyone else who sees this thread like I did will know. I know this is an old thread, but if you use Axii the mind control sign it negates their regeneration.
Im level 3 and I was having issues with this quest until just now. Hopefully this helps someone else. View Profile View Posts. You saved my day! I was already at the end of LVL4 but still struggled. The Witcher 3 - Alghoul - Death March
As you said, Axii negated his effect and then it was "rather" easy. Per page: 15 30 Date Posted: 23 May, am.Looking to get more ability points? See our Money Making Guide! We've got you covered! Fighting an Alghoul is almost like fighting a more powerful Ghoul. The best way to deal with an Alghoul is fight it while keeping it calm during combat. You can do this by constanly casting the Axii Sign on them whenever they are vulnerable.
If an Alghoul's spikes have grown, this is the perfect time to cast the Axii Sign on it to calm it down. Attacking an Alghoul with grown spikes will deflect all your attacks and damage you at the same time. If you are dealing with a pack of Alghouls, it is recommended that you kill them off one by one. Sometimes Alghouls will start regenerating and it is harder to deal with multiple Alghouls regenerating while you are trying to spread out your damage.
You should use your Silver Sword and coat it with Necrophage oil to deal bonus damage to them. See the List of All Monsters. You can save a comment for later by giving it a Like. It prefers to kill its victims, because it loves to eat, but it also likes to prepare its own meals. Alghouls are smarter and more powerful than Ghouls or Graveirsmaking them the greatest threat in a Ghoul pack. An otherwise coordinated pack becomes less so once the alghoul has been dealt with. Axii forces the spines on an alghoul to retract after a few seconds, with the added benefit of temporarily stunning the creature.
An Alghoul can emit a piercing scream to stun nearby victims, as well as send nearby Ghouls into a raging frenzy. When enraged, an alghoul grows spines on its back. This makes attacking it a very dangerous proposition, as the spines are harmful if you use melee attacks.

Geralt is going to be doing a lot of healing up between battles, and on the higher difficulty players might find themselves limping over to the nearest inn to buy, say, 30 chicken dumplings for the White Wolf to wolf down in one sitting. Geralt can also partake in some raw meat which is found all around the world and in the innards of wolves, but for the authentic role playing experience and efficiency we recommend potions and actual food.
Potions can be brewed via the alchemy tab, and steadily increased in effectiveness. By late game, Geralt will have a LOT of potions to choose from for every situation. Potions are limited, unfortunately, despite being refilled with any usable alcohol whenever Geralt meditates.
The Witcher 3 Alchemy ingredient lists: How to make potions, bombs, decoctions, oils and substances
That means looting corpses for spare food, leading to Geralt pilfering only chicken legs and bread from his downed foes. It's quite comical, really. Innkeepers will also have a fine stock of genuine food, but that's money better spent upgrading weapons in the early-game.
Some passive abilities grant a constant stream of health regeneration, but players may tricked into spending one point on "Sun and Stars" in the skill tree, which regenerates vitality during the day. This is a pretty easy trap for late-game players where every skill point counts. There's no way of getting that point back, and eventually it will be swapped out for a more useful skill, such as Geralt's Igni creating a steady stream of fire, or basic attacks causing bleeding.
Activating Mutagens by placing them next to the skills will increase the potency of that skill's effect depending on its color, meaning that when placing a strong red mutagen next to three red skills, Geralt will get much more potency than he'd get by placing the white skill Sun and Stars and breaking that red chain.
When it comes to effectiveness, though, players should focus on the Active Shield skill in the Quen sign tree which grants a shield that, when hit, will refill Geralt's health. This is a must on the higher difficulties and doesn't require consuming food.
There's a bonus skill if you don't mind wasting a skill slot that will keep that shield up indefinitely without depleting stamina, allowing Geralt to simply put it up and wait for the enemy to get him back into fighting shape.
Arqade is a question and answer site for passionate videogamers on all platforms. It only takes a minute to sign up. I'm doing a contract at the moment, but I ran into trouble defeating two level 5 Alghouls that roam the area I have to examine. I'm at the same level myself, but the Alghouls are quite a bit harder than any other enemy of that level that I previously encountered.
I'm playing on the second-hardest difficulty level.
I know that Axii is supposed to help, but when I tried it I still got staggered when attacking them after axiing them. They're also pretty fast, I had some trouble dodging them, which is quickly fatal as I can only survive hits from them. The bestiary also doesn't contain a lot of useful information about them. How do the spikes on Alghouls and Axii work exactly? How do you evade their attacks, dodging or rolling, and in which direction? Any other tips on defeating them?
My technique for this monster. I rely on dodging and the fast attack skills, other tactics might vary by build. Dodge You'll want to dodge instead of rolling or parrying. If you roll, you'll be too far away to strike them, and parrying you'll still take damage. Also, you will not be able to counter so holding down the Parry button is a waste. Watch the monster carefully and continually circle around them.
When they flash red, that is the visual signal that they are about to attack. Then you'll want to dodge to the side and get three fast strikes in. Then immediately back off. Don't get greedy, they can hit you through your own attacks. If you have the Fleet Footed perk and Fast Attack perksall the better.
Oils If you have the Necrophage oil, and you've spotted the Alghoul far enough away that you're not in combat, apply your oil. A good technique for this is to use your Witcher senses to look for movement circles the white wobbly circles then listen, you'll hear gutteral gurgling and growling, which to me says Necrophage. The Witcher 3 Alchemy ingredients play into the game's survival elements and its crafting system. While you can only craft equipment if you've got a blacksmith, you can create fantastical concoctions, oils, and even bombs, wherever you are - you just need to know how.
The Alchemy system allows you to create a huge variety of different things by finding the recipes scattered throughout the world. If you're looking for more assistance, our Witcher 3 walkthrough can help.
The substances in The Witcher 3 are often the basic components of the more complicated items. They're no use on their own, but once you start mixing them all together you can end up with something incredible.
They usually require a different mix of the herbs and plants you find as you adventure through the world. So never be afraid to take some time to pick the flowers. Among the many tools that a witcher can utilise, bombs are perhaps the most flashy. Each one has some kind of incredible effect, ranging from simply creating a fiery explosion, to more impressive things like stopping a monster transforming.
Learning how to use them in combat can be the difference between life and death, especially against groups of enemies. Decoctions are effectively more powerful potions.
As a result, they require rarer ingredients and carry a higher toxicity. They are, however, incredibly worth the effort to make and use, as they grant you even more superhuman abilities. Oils allow you to enhance your weapons by making them more effective against specific enemy types. They are far more useful in the harder difficulties, but can also help you cut through higher level enemies if you're feeling ambitious.
